Cloud Imperium Games has dropped a massive update for Star Citizen with the release of Alpha 4.1.1 PTU, and it’s one of the most exciting patches we’ve seen in recent memory, this update lays the foundation for the future of space combat in the ‘verse with the introduction of Ship Battle Missions V1, stunning new asteroid base POIs, and major improvements to ships and FPS gameplay.
Let’s break it all down.
⚔️ New Missions: Ship Battle Missions V1 (Patrol, Ambush & Combat Gauntlet)
Alpha 4.1.1 introduces a brand-new mission type centered entirely around space combat
something long-time fans have eagerly awaited. The new Ship Battle Missions are broken into three core experiences:

🛰️ Patrol Missions
Offered by both Foxwell Enforcement (legal) and the Head Hunters (criminal), Patrol missions send you through a series of patrol points, each potentially triggering randomized events. The twist? Difficulty levels escalate, and Ace Pilots may appear — elite foes (or allies) with high stakes and skill to match.
- Foxwell Missions: Legal operations that progress based on mission completions, not rep.
- Head Hunters Missions: Illegal missions that can give you a crimestat — but they pay more and scale through reputation ranks.
These missions are location-based, reducing the burden of long QT hops and ensuring more time spent in action.
🎯 Ambush Missions
Feeling sneaky? Ambush missions offer a more tactical approach. Players jump to a location, power down their ships to mask their signature, and wait for targets to arrive. Once hostiles are on site, it’s go time. Expect reinforcements, escalating challenges, and Ace Pilots at higher levels. Available through both Foxwell and the Head Hunters.

🧠 Advanced Combat Training: Gilly’s Gauntlet
Think you’re a hotshot pilot? Foxwell’s Gilly wants to test that. This training gauntlet introduces players to eight escalating combat scenarios, designed to ease new combatants into more advanced gameplay while challenging veterans:
- Single Targets
- Multiple Targets
- Target Priority
- Target Stealth
- Missiles & Countermeasures
- Multi-Crew Targets
- Corvette with Escorts
- Capital Ship Encounter
If you love dogfighting, this is your new proving ground.
🌌 New Asteroid Cluster Mining Bases
Scattered throughout Stanton and Pyro, these asteroid clusters bring a gritty, immersive feel to space travel. Used in new ship combat missions, these bases feature:
- Turrets
- Gas tanks
- No interiors (for now), but still packed with strategic value
Whether you’re in it for the mission or the mayhem, these clusters add rich variety to space exploration and combat.
🚢 Vehicle & Weapon Balance Updates
A few notable changes under the hood:
ARGO RAFT
- Old 3-arm system removed
- Now features a single cargo grid with 192 SCU, doubling its previous capacity
- New tractor beam mount added, now controlled from the rear control room
A huge buff to the RAFT’s usability in logistics and trade gameplay.

🛡️ Anvil Valkyrie
- Significantly improved hull and joint health
- Boosted thrust
- Slight reduction in top speed (to balance the buffs)
This makes the Valk even more viable in troop and cargo transport roles under fire.

🔫 FPS Weapon Balance Pass
Karna
- More spread overall
- Reduced alt-fire projectile speed
- Intended to tone down its sniper-like alt-fire role.

Gallant
- Increased base damage (from 19 to 21)
- Improved recoil feel (smoother camera shake)

ParaMed Medical Device
- Now occupies the pistol slot
- Easier to access without conflicting with multi-tools
- Encourages diverse loadouts for FPS medics

🐞 Known Issues (as of latest PTU Build 9704633)
Here are some of the biggest bugs being tracked:
- 🚨 Ambush objective markers may not appear
- 🚨 Missions may not localize properly in mobiGlas
- 🚨 Landing gear debris can cause players to fall through the ground
- 🚨 Valkyrie door turrets are missing
- 🚨 “Search & Destroy” doesn’t progress when pinging (fix coming next build)
- 🚨 Medical kiosk stuck on loading screen in Brentworth Care Center
As always, this is the PTU — bugs are expected. CIG is rapidly iterating and encourages all testers to submit feedback via the Issue Council.
🎉 Final Thoughts
Alpha 4.1.1 marks a significant leap forward for Star Citizen. With more structured, polished, and meaningful combat missions, and enhancements across the board, CIG is setting the stage for deeper gameplay loops and more emergent storytelling. If you’re part of Wave 1, jump in and test!
And for everyone else — keep your eyes on the horizon. If this is just the beginning of 4.1, the live release is going to be a wild ride.
Fly safe, shoot straight, and don’t forget to power down before an ambush.
